What is anterior interosseus artery?

The anterior interosseous artery is a branch of the common interosseous artery, which is a branch of the ulnar artery. It runs along the interosseous membrane of the forearm, alongside the anterior interosseous nerve. The artery supplies blood to the muscles of the forearm, including the flexor digitorum profundus and the pronator quadratus. It can be occluded due to trauma or occlusive disease, leading to ischemia and muscle wasting of the affected forearm muscles. Surgical repair of the artery may be necessary in cases of significant injury or disease.
